Jack’s Project: Alfie Stephens at Midsomer Norton Skate Park
.
With this project I had a really particular creative idea that it was crucial I stuck to. The idea was to flip skate park photography on its head and go for a much cleaner, washed out look than I had ever seen before. As every piece of skate park I had seen before was always dark, graffiti filled and really strongly lit. I wanted to step back from that style and create something clean, washed out, and with the only piece of colour being the rider.
This required an over cast day, a clean and well kept skate park along with heavily diffused lighting and low angles, to block out the background scenes.
The whole project relied heavily on after effects as well. This is because despite having the perfect conditions for the shoot and finding the perfect skate park, you cant help but have objects stand out in the background. So the photos were put through some photoshopping to edit out lamp posts, tree’s and various other objects.
I’m super happy with how these shots came out, I was able to achieve the exact look I imagined when planning the shoot which, with so many elements to factor in, I’m incredibly pleased with.
